Books & Me Children's Chinese Library is a service brought to you by the Zhaoyu Cultural Foundation (ZCF), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization registered in California. The Books & Me Children's Chinese Library aims to provide high quality Chinese books, audio/video materials and Chinese cultural activities for children through on-site and lending services.
Currently, Books & Me provides free onsite and lending services for books, audio and video materials. You will need a Library Card to enjoy these services. Limitations and fines/penalties may apply. Please refer to Library Policy and Terms of Use for details.
Any resident of California 18 or older with proper identification and verification of residence address may apply for a Library Card. One library card is issued per family. The Library Card can be applied for in the Library only. You will need a valid drivers license or state-issued ID. The process may take about 5-10 minutes

Books and Me is a fantastic Children's Library. It has a great selection of Chinese Children's books, music, stories, and DVD/VCD's. I think the majority of the books are written in traditional Chinese characters with the bo-po-mo-fo but there are some books from Mainland China also. You can only borrow 6 items at a time with the normal membership. However, if you pay a fee to join as a VIP, you can borrow up to 20 items at a time.
My son has regularly attended the free Chinese storytime there, taken a few of the music classes, and has attended some of the holiday parties (Halloween and Chinese New Year). We have both really enjoyed them. It's a pretty immersive environment, not much English being spoken at all, so I think been a fun way to reinforce his Mandarin speaking.
The library itself is very pleasant and the staff that works there are very helpful and friendly. You can tell that the library is a real labor of love by volunteers and patrons.
I definitely recommend visiting Books and Me if you have an under 8 year old child who is learning Chinese.
